Meet The Staff
Chris & Cheryl Buscher
We’ve been married for 13 years and have 3 children, Cadence, Noah, and Kyla. All of them love to play sports, including fastpitch softball, volleyball, baseball, flag and tackle football, soccer, and gymnastics. These activities keep us very busy, but we enjoy every moment.
Chris, a healthcare provider in Newport, was a multi-sport athlete throughout his youth. He remains passionate about sports and values a safe, fun and positive environment. When he isn’t coaching softball, baseball and football or sneaking in some softball or volleyball playing time for himself, you’ll find him working diligently on creating relationships and working on growth of The Academy.
Cheryl, a part-time bookkeeper, keeps busy supporting the kids in their sports and activities along with running The Academy on the back end. While she is the only non-athlete in the family, she has always valued health and fitness and is especially passionate about our small group personal training programs.
Outside of sports we enjoy church, family time and the outdoors - hiking/backpacking, camping, just being together. We also love to drink coffee, play games and spend time with friends.
Chris is a full body certified in Active Release Technique® at Spokane Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic. ART® is one of the worlds premier soft tissue treatments that is found in the training rooms of most professional sports teams. In the Academy, he specializes in working with athletes and teams to help develop their strength, speed, power and agility. He also oversees a large majority of the rehab programs.
Chris is a certified speed and agility coach, certified functional strength coach, USA powerlifting coach, national high school strength and conditioning specialist, jump training certified coach, certified EXOS tactical trainer, and level 1 FMS certified. He continues to enhance his knowledge every year with different areas of learning and certifications in the strength and conditioning world.
Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Chris attended Creighton University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. While attending Creighton he excelled as a member of the baseball team and was drafted by the Texas Rangers. After completing his degree, he played four years in the Ranger’s organization, making his way as high as triple A and appearing in two big league exhibition games in Arlington, Texas.
Chris enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and just about anything outdoors. He is also involved with Mt. Spokane Fellowship of Christian Athletes in which he thoroughly enjoys mentoring and leading teenagers. Chris also mentors a young man named Charlie with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
